Invisible Labor, Infinite Waste

½” Scale Models

The three model boxes display the progression of labor and resources that are unnoticed and disposed of in residential construction. Mirrors depict how this process is occurring continuously. The first box shows a person completing a structure, the second has a pile of debris behind the structure being remodeled and the last one shows a large pile of debris which has spilled out of the model and into a full-sized trash can. This project is meant to invoke thought on both the labor and the workers that are involved throughout the process of construction and how their time and craftsmanship is seen as disposable. It is also meant to exhibit consumerism and its influences on the disposal process, as perfectly good work is thrown out along with garbage.

The five phases are The Tower: sudden upheaval / disaster, Three of Swords: heartbreak / grief, The Hermit: contemplation / search for truth, Nine of Swords: anxiety / hopelessness and The Fool: new beginnings.

Time Warp is a representation of how society felt within the last year. We were stuck in a continuous cycle of the unknown, dealing with the loss of what life used to be.
