Fractured Mementos
Cole Shoemaker, Projection Design
he | him
Fractured Mementos is an auditory and visual experience. It combines the musical works of Leyland James Kirby’s collection of albums, Everywhere at the End of Time, with projections to represent the process of memory degradation in a similar fashion to diseases such as Alzheimer’s and dementia. As the night continues on, the piece will become more and more discombobulated to represent the human mind reacting to such a destructive process.
STAGE 1 - (5:00-5:21)
The first signs of memory loss; this stage reflects on the glory of old age and is the last remnant of recollection.
STAGE 2 - (5:21-5:41)
In this stage, self-realization kicks in and denial to admit that something is wrong begins to take shape. This stage has a lower mood to indicate confusion yet to come.
STAGE 3 - (5:41-6:05)
The last stage before post-awareness of memory loss, the last fond memories are recalled before the confusion begins to take over.
STAGE 4 - (6:05-6:42)
The beginning of post-awareness; the ability to recall paves the way for horror and confusion. Memories become more entangled and ruptured.
STAGE 5 - (6:42-7:23)
Memory ruptures and entanglements become more extreme but can lead to calmer moments. Living in the moment is how time is spent from here on out.
STAGE 6 - (7:23-8:00)
(Stage 6 is without description.)
Duration: 3 hours

Special Thanks
Cole Shoemaker is very excited for the debut of his first theatrical piece at CSULB. Not only is this his first semester at CSULB, but this is also the first projection design that Cole has created for all to enjoy!
Cole would like to thank his mom and dad, Jordan Shoe, Grandpa Joe, the RCLN AV team, and the CSULB Theatre Arts staff for all of the help and support in making this project a reality.
